“The True Inspiration Awards program was created in 2015 to honor the legacy of Chick-fil-A founder S. Truett Cathy. Through these annual grants, we are proud to celebrate and support nonprofit organizations who are Black-led or serve communities of color and who are working in the areas of education, hunger or homelessness. Applications for the 2022 True Inspiration Awards are open March 1 through May 31, 2021.”
For the second year in a row, Chick-fil-A is focusing its True Inspiration Awards on Black-led nonprofits. Additionally, nonprofits that impact communities of color are also eligible. Earlier last week, the fast food chain announced that applications for the 2022 grant program are open. Applicants have until May 31 to apply. Chick-fil-A will be giving a total of $5 million in grants. The recipients will be 34 nonprofits that focus on education, homelessness and hunger. True Inspiration Awards grants range from $50,000 to $350,000 and organizations in the U.S. and Canada are eligible to apply.
Last year’s 34 True Inspiration Awards recipients spanned two countries, 18 states and 29 cities. The positive impact was felt amongst over 230,000 individuals through their work. The True Inspiration Awards were first created in 2015. Since the program's inception, it has awarded a total of $12 million in grants to 171 organizations. Last year Chick-fil-A decided to focus the program specifically on nonprofits that are Black-led or that impact communities of color. This move was part of the company’s “pledge to take action against racial injustice,” according to the program’s FAQ page.
“There are incredible nonprofit organizations across the U.S. and Canada working to address key issues that disproportionately affect communities of color in the areas of education, homelessness and hunger,” says Rodney Bullard, vice president of corporate social responsibility for Chick-fil-A, Inc. “Through our annual True Inspiration Awards, we are honored to help these organizations, based in the communities we serve, extend their impact, helping to pave the way for greater opportunity and equity.”
Nine organizations will be selected as Category Winners. Category Winners will demonstrate leadership and as mentioned above, impact in the areas of education, hunger and homelessness.
